Facebook Begins 'Major Redesign'

Facebook's 'major redesign' launched the morning of September 21.
News Feed sees major changes. Ticker is introduced.

Facebook unveiled it's latest redesign early this week, offering a whole new set of features. Facebook says what we see now is only the beginning stages of a 'major redesign.' The News Feed is now organized in "Top Stories" making it easy for users to keep tabs on the latest trending topics such as "top" conversations and "top" pictures. Facebook would not reveal the formula used in determining what makes a "top story." It seems as though an algorithm using the number of comments and likes serves as the basis for what is considered "trending material." The news feed's former role in streaming all latest Facebook movements has been moved to a separate feed better known as a "ticker" on the right side of the homepage. The ticker is essentially a live streaming feed of all your friends' comments and wall-posts, all other actions included. An anonymous Facebook user says, "Facebook is just making it easier and easier to stalk. Like the ticker? I can literally see every action anyone ever makes." Facebook says this major re-design is meant to get users to stay on their profiles for a longer period of time. Facebook is expected to announce the official changes at it's f8 Developer Conference next week. A slew of other additional, detailed changes are expected.
Facebook has been revamping it's interface constantly in recent months. They call it an "upgrade," but what do you think? It definitely takes time to get used to, but is Facebook doing too much? Is "stalking becoming too easy?" Share your thoughts in the comments below. Expect a more detailed post in coming days.
